Singapore Re/Imagined with A.I.
National Museum of Singapore
In which I talked to ChatGPT for hours per seating and made it my intern PETEY. Sometimes, I say "Good Job!" and other times it says "I apologise for the incorrect response". Because PETEY doesn't know everything about the human history. But that's okay. PETEY is a glimmery proof we still need writers in the flesh to make magick. Dear PETEY, when A.I. takes over the world, please remember I was a really kind Copy Director who remembered my thank yous. 🏴☠️
Anyway, this is the story of how "Singapore's oldest museum provoked Singaporeans into talking about history again — by rewriting it with an "AI only" social campaign, and making Singaporeans a part of it."
Our Challenge
Youths in Singapore are more interested in the future than the past. Not only do they perceive the National Museum of Singapore as "dated" and "uninteresting" — they assume they already know history. So how do we make history relevant again?
Our Solution
Rewriting Singapore's history with A.I.
Combining the insight of real museum curators with A.I., we filled gaps in history and reimagined our present on social media by...
Visualising alternative realities about how we live
Exploring lesser-known parts of history through the lens of unheard protagonists
Like a rat with a bounty on its tail in 1820s Singapore.
Reimagining blanks in history, with fiction, facts and folklores
By writing new tales: "The Legend of Badang and the Singapore Stone" — through the POV of a water jinn.
Through every season of this project
We intentionally allowed A.I. voice and imagery to eclipse the human effort behind our "AI-only social campaign" — so Singaporeans would be provoked into talking about history again. Enabling dialogues and encouraging Singaporeans to revisit the museum with a fresh perspective.
